The Top 15 Lies You’re Being Told About Health and Mainstream Medicine

We found a great article about the 15 biggest health lies told by the corporate doctors and healthcare professionals in the name of profit.  The article, entitled ‘The Top 15 Lies You’re Being Told About Health and Mainstream Medicine’ is written  by Marco Torres over at Wake Up World.  We found the article through this video on youtube:  (You can either watch the entire video or read an excerpt of the article below with links to the the rest)

The biggest 15 lies the medical community is telling you.
The biggest 15 lies the medical community is telling you. Don’t keep it to yourself!

Do you ever question what doctors, nutritionists, institutions and even science tells you about your health, food, environment and lifestyle? You should, because we live in an era of deception and duplicity where the most trusted and valued sources of information are hijacked by much bigger interests than you can imagine.

The reason they’re failing us is because corrupt governments, corporations and the media are constantly feeding us lies on a daily basis, which through repetition, the public eventually accepts as truth. The internet is one of the last frontiers for truth, informing and educating billions on why our systems of health, agriculture, medicine and many other areas we depend on are failing us.

LIE #1. Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) Can Feed the World

Lies that you have been told about GMOs. There are a lot of them.
Lies that you have been told about GMOs. There are a lot of them.

A lot of food that we eat today contains genetically modified ingredients and usually without our knowledge. Supporters of this technology maintain that it ensures and sustains food security around the world as the population increases. As well as scientific debates on the merits of genetically engineered food, there are equally, if not more important, debates on the socioeconomic ramifications of the way such science is marketed and used.

The dangers of GMO foods can no longer be denied.

Biotechnology companies erroneously claim that their manipulations are similar to natural genetic changes or traditional breeding techniques. However, the cross-species transfers being made, such as between fish and tomatoes, or between other unrelated species, would not happen in nature and create new toxins, diseases, and genetic weaknesses. When genetic engineers insert a new gene into any organism there are “position effects” which can lead to unpredictable changes in the pattern of gene expression and genetic function. The protein product of the inserted gene may carry out unexpected reactions and produce potentially toxic products. There is also serious concern about the dangers of using genetically engineered viruses as delivery vehicles (vectors) in the generation of transgenic plants and animals. This could destabilise the genome, and also possibly create new viruses, and thus dangerous new diseases.

Unlike chemical or nuclear contamination, genetic pollution is self-perpetuating. It can never be reversed or cleaned up; genetic mistakes will be passed on to all future generations of a species.

LIE #2. Electromagnetic Fields and Wireless Radiation Are Not Harmful to Humans

The danger of magnetic, electric, wireless, radio (microwave), ground current, and high frequency radiation is that it is mostly invisible until great damage is done – like the increased risk of some brain tumors in long term cell phone users.

iPhones and all wireless technology are harming your body.
iPhones and all other wireless technologies are harming your body.

Sensitivity to electromagnetic radiation is a very big health problem of our youngest generations. The media and medical community dismiss it, but it is imperative health practitioners, governments, schools and our entire society learn more about the risks because the human health stakes are significant.

Studies suggest that women briefly exposed to very high-intensity EMFs have an increased risk of miscarriage, especially EMFs emitted by power lines and electrical appliances.

A growing percentage of people are now heeding the advice of holistic health experts and disposing of their microwaves due to the dangers of microwaved food.

The effect of EMFs on biological tissue remains controversial. Virtually all scientists agree that more research is necessary to determine safe or dangerous levels. It’s like one big human experiment which we won’t know the results of for several decades. Now, with the increasing proliferation of wireless handheld and portable devices, it is literally impossible to escape EMFs in any major city.

What they do know is that iron, which is necessary for healthy blood and is stored in the brain, is highly affected by EMFs. The permeability of the cell membranes of nerves, blood vessels, skin and other organs is also affected, as well as the intricate DNA of the chromosomes. Every bodily biochemical process involves precisely choreographed movement of EMF sensitive atoms, molecules, and ions.

Not only do EMFs impact your own health and that of your children and pets, but also the Earth as a whole, as our overuse of electricity contributes greatly to pollution from coal-fired electricity plants. Those who are wise will heed the warnings of the electrically sensitive and reduce the EMF radiation in their homes through good design and reduction of dependence on electric appliances.

LIE #3. Medical Screening and Treatments Prevent Death

Even though the medical community advocates for regular screenings for those with illnesses, they may bring little benefit and may actually pose harm to your health. This applies to almost every type of medical screening for cancer and several other diseases. Medical screening carries an immense risk in itself, not only due to the damage inflicted by screening techniques on the human body, but by the very nature of medical follow-up protocols. These protocols usually encourage patients to enter deeper into more invasive techniques, which further cripple health and lead to a very high percentage of fatalities.

Doctors are often criticized for prescribing unneeded tests and procedures that harm more than they help and add to medical costs that could otherwise be avoided. 12 medical tests and procedures now being questioned worldwide as unnecessary and potentially cause — sometimes harmful results to patients.

The dark side of breast cancer treatment.
The dark side of breast cancer treatment.

Radiation-induced cancers have tripled in the last two decades and diagnostic imaging has been already admitted as a cause by the U.S. government.

There is a secular trend between breast cancer mortality and screening programs specifically medial diagnostic techniques such as mammography. In a Swedish study of 60,000 women, 70 percent of the mammographically detected tumors weren’t tumors at all. These “false positives” aren’t just financial and emotional strains, they may also lead to many unnecessary and invasive biopsies. In fact, 70 to 80 percent of all positive mammograms do not, upon biopsy, show any presence of cancer.

A prostate (PSA) blood test looks for prostate-specific antigen, a protein produced by the prostate gland. High levels are supposedly associated with prostate cancer. The problem is that the association isn’t always correct, and when it is, the prostate cancer isn’t necessarily deadly. Only about 3 percent of all men die from prostate cancer. The PSA test usually leads to overdiagnosis — biopsies and treatment in which the side effects are impotence and incontinence. Repeated biopsies may spread cancer cells into the track formed by the needle, or by spilling cancerous cells directly into the bloodstream or lympathic system.

News coverage of many diseases focus too much on treatments and not enough on prevention, a trend that could prove risky in the long run for most people who don’t understand how to take care of their health.

LIE #4. Fluoride Prevents Tooth Decay

Flouride causes more cancer than any other chemical. Dr Dean Burk PhD
Flouride causes more cancer than any other chemical. Dr Dean Burk PhD – 34 years at the national cancer institute

A growing number of communities are choosing to stop adding fluoride to their water systems, even though the federal government and federal health officials maintain their full support for a measure they say provides a 25 percent reduction in tooth decay nationwide.

There are now serious facts and health risks regarding fluoridation which can no longer be ignored and the practice itself is being questioned by most of the world.

Austrian researchers proved in the 1970s that as little as 1 ppm fluoride concentration can disrupt DNA repair enzymes by 50%. When DNA can’t repair damaged cells, we get old fast.

Fluoride prematurely ages the body, mainly by distortion of enzyme shape. All systems of the body are dependent upon enzymes. When fluoride changes the enzymes, this can damage every system and function of the body.

Dr. Paul Connett, PhD stated “When historians come to write about this period, they will single out fluoridation as the single biggest mistake in public policy that we’ve ever had.”

David Kennedy, DDS President International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology said that “water fluoridation is the single largest case of scientific fraud, promoted by the government, supported by taxpayer dollars, aided and abetted by the ADA and the AMA, in the history of the planet.”

LIE #5. Focus on Lowering Bad Cholesterol is the Key to Preventing Heart Disease

Perhaps one of the biggest health myths propagated in western culture and certainly in the United States, is the misuse of an invented term “bad cholesterol” by the media and medical community. Moreover, a scientifically-naive public has been conned into a fraudulent correlation between elevated cholesterol and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Cholesterol has not been shown to actually cause CVD. To the contrary, cholesterol is vital to our survival, and trying to artificially lower it can have detrimental effects, particularly as we age.

We have become a culture so obsessed with eating foods low in cholesterol and fat that many health experts are now questioning the consequences. Could we really maintain a dietary lifestyle that was so foreign to many of our ancestral populations without any ill effects on our health? Many researchers are now concluding that the answer to that question is “NO.” Current data is now suggesting that lower cholesterol levels predate the development of cancer. Scientific papers prove that people with high so-called “Bad” LDL cholesterol live the longest.

Why Cholesterol Doesn’t Cause Heart Disease
Why Cholesterol Doesn’t Cause Heart Disease

The ‘noddy-science’ offered by marketing men to a generally scientifically -naive public has led many people to believe that we should replace certain food choices with specially developed products that can help ‘reduce cholesterol’. Naturally this comes at a price and requires those who can afford it to pay maybe four or five times what a ‘typical ordinary’ product might cost. But is this apparent ‘blanket need’ to strive towards lowering our cholesterol justified? And, indeed, is it healthy?

The cholesterol itself, whether being transported by LDL or HDL, is exactly the same. Cholesterol is simply a necessary ingredient that is required to be regularly delivered around the body for the efficient healthy development, maintenance and functioning of our cells. The difference is in the ‘transporters’ (the lipoproteins HDL and LDL) and both types are essential for the human body’s delivery logistics to work effectively.

Problems can occur, however, when the LDL particles are both small and their carrying capacity outweighs the transportation potential of available HDL. This can lead to more cholesterol being ‘delivered’ around the body with lower resources for returning excess capacity to the liver.

We need to reform education on what really causes heart disease and why cholesterol, whether high or low, is not an evil process in the body, but a natural part of our biology. When we stop listening to medical doctors, suddenly we start listening to what our bodies crave… to be the healthiest version of ourselves.

Laetrile / B-17: The Alternative Cancer Treatment Suppressed For Over 50 Years

“A control for cancer is known, and it comes from nature, but it is not widely available to the public because it cannot be patented, and therefore is not commercially attractive to the pharmaceutical industry.”
-G. Edward Griffin

B-17 / Laetrile: The Alternative Cancer Treatment Suppressed For Over 50 Years

First, this from cancer.com:

What is the history behind Laetrile?

“Bitter almonds” have been used as a medical remedy for thousands of years by cultures as diverse as the ancient Egyptians, Chinese, and Pueblo Indians. In 1802, a chemist discovered that distilling the water from bitter almonds released hydrocyanic acid. In the 1830s, the source of this hydrocyanic acid was purified and called amygdalin. It was thought to be the active ingredient in bitter almonds.

According to a 1991 review, the current use of Laetrile can be directly attributed to the theories of Ernst T. Krebs, Sr., MD, which were first proposed in the 1920s. Krebs tested an extract from apricot pits to treat cancer, but the pills proved too toxic for human use.

Apricot pits contain Laetrile.
Find Laetrile or Amygdalin in Apricot Pits. Alternative cancer cure?

Around 1952, his son, Ernst T. Krebs, Jr., changed the process of extracting amygdalin and created a chemically modified version, which he named Laetrile. He claimed that the new substance was more potent as an anti-cancer drug than naturally-occurring amygdalin. Despite this chemical distinction, both proponents and skeptics commonly refer to both substances as Laetrile. Adding to this confusion is the fact that many products sold as Laetrile consist mostly of amygdalin. It is also the form most often used by Mexican cancer clinics.

The same 1991 review notes that, beginning in 1957, Laetrile was repeatedly tested against tumor cells implanted in animals. At least a dozen separate sets of experiments were done at seven institutions. Targets included several different types of cancer. The conclusion was that Laetrile did not have any anti-tumor activity.

The FDA placed sanctions against the sale of Laetrile. In 1977, the FDA commissioner stated that there was no evidence for the safety or effectiveness of Laetrile. Because of the risk of cyanide poisoning, the government has banned the transport of Laetrile into the United States or across state lines, as well as the use of Laetrile in states without laws specifically allowing it. Since 2000, there have been several instances of prosecution because of Laetrile transport across state lines. Nonetheless, products advertised as Laetrile and amygdalin can still be purchased via many websites.

So.  That was from cancer.com apparently saying that Laetrile doesn’t work.  Now.  Watch this video:

And now read this from chrisbeatcancer.com:

This post is about of one of the most controversial natural cancer-fighting substances, and the cancer industry’s attempt to destroy it.
Lies, cover-ups, betrayal…this is one unbelievable story that sprawls over several decades.
There is a massive amount of information and many books written about this,
I’ve tried my best to distill it down for you.

This substance is called Amygdalin or Vitamin B-17.

Although technically not a vitamin, Vitamin B-17 was the name given to Amygdalin by bio-chemist Dr. Ernst T Krebs in 1952.

We’re about to get technical, so stay with me. By the end of this post it will all make sense.

How B-17 works (a tale of two enzymes):
Rhodanese is an enzyme found everywhere in the body except for cancer cells.
Beta-Glucosidase is an enzyme found only in and around cancer cells.

Hold that thought.

Vitamin B-17 is a molecule made up of four parts:
-2 parts Glucose
-1 part Benzaldahyde
-1 part Hydrogen Cyanide

I know what you’re thinking.
Cyanide?
Yikes!

Don’t worry, Cyanide in this form is non-toxic, just like it is in Vitamin B-12.

Amygdalin for sale online.
Laetrile or Vitamin B17 is used some very convincing alternative cancer treatments. Discover them here.

Normal healthy cells contain the enzyme Rhodanese which neutralizes the Benzaldahyde and Hydrogen Cyanide in B-17. It converts them to the useful nutrient compounds Thyiocyanate and Benzoic acid.

Here’s the amazing part:
The glucose delivers B-17 to the cancer cells, but cancer cells do not have the enzyme Rhodanese to neutralize the cyanide.
Instead they have a unique enzyme called Beta-Glucosidase. This “unlocking enzyme”, found only in cancer cells, releases the Benzaldahyde and Cyanide from the glucose and each other creating a targeted poison that kills the cancer cell.

This is about the closest thing to “natural chemo” that I’ve ever heard of.

This is also why integrative doctors and many health experts identify a lack of essential nutrients like a Vitamin B-17 and/or a proteolytic (protein digesting) enzyme deficiency, as contributing “causes” of cancer.

In other words, cancer is a natural process that occurs in your body when it is deprived of essential nutrients. Restore the nutrients and your body will be able to heal itself.

Where can you find B-17?
In the foods no one eats of course!
B-17 occurs in abundances in nature and is bitter to the taste.
In order to improve taste of certain foods, the food industry has eliminated bitter substances like B-17 by selection and cross-breeding.

When is the last time you ate something bitter on purpose?

B-17 is present in foods rich in nitrilosides i.e. bitter foods like bitter almonds.
One of the highest concentrations of B-17 is found in raw apricot seeds
aka apricot kernels.

Most folks have no idea what an apricot kernel looks like because they are actually hidden inside the pit.

Next time you eat a peach or an apricot, crack open the pit and inside you will find the kernel.

I heard about apricot kernels having an anti-cancer benefit years ago, but never took the time to investigate until recently. It wasn’t a part of my original anti-cancer diet,
but it is now.
The first time I read about them, I couldn’t wait to eat one. I took a peach pit outside on the driveway and hit it with a hammer. The pit and kernel exploded into bits, but fortunately I was able to recover half of the kernel and eat it.
Note: Hammer on the driveway is not the best method.

Apricot and peach kernels look and taste like an almond at first, but there’s a bitter surprise coming. You will be tempted to spit it out, but don’t do it! Truth be told, I don’t particularly like the taste, but I eat them anyway, and a part of me gets a little excited every time I taste this bitter natural cancer poison. The first time you eat one is weird, but you will get accustomed to the taste.

We eat the kernels straight out of the bag, but if you just can’t get used to the taste, you can grind them up in a Nut & Seed Grinder and add them to smoothies, soups, salads, etc.
They are more palatable that way.

How much should you eat?
It’s recommended that you introduce them to your system gradually:
One per hour for the first few days, should be fine.
Eventually you can eat 10-20 at a time, up to three times per day, depending on your body. If you overdo it you might get a little queasy.
Your body will tell you when you’ve had enough.

B-17 is present in many foods and most fruit seeds including apples, cherries, nectarines, pears, plums, etc.
A simple thing to do is always eat the seeds after you eat the fruit.

I was happy to discover that I was getting unknowingly getting B-17 everyday from my Coconut Fruit Smoothies thanks to the blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries.

Also I never would’ve imagined that this book existed, but it does!
The Little Cyanide Cookbook: Delicious Recipes Rich in Vitamin B17 by June De Spain.

As you know, scientists and researchers have often studied the diets of indigenous peoples around the world to discover their “health secrets”.
The Hunzakuts of Northern Pakistan are no exception. They often live to be over 100 years old. In 1922 British surgeon Dr. Robert McCarrison reported that they had never had a case of cancer and they ate copious amounts of Apricot kernels. In fact a Hunza man’s wealth was determined by the amount of Apricot trees he owned! The picture above shows them drying apricots in the sun.
You can read more about them in The Healthy Hunzas by J.I. Rodale

Enter Laetrile
When the powerful cancer-fighting properties of Amygdalin/B-17 were discovered, the next logical step was to extract and administer this substance in concentrated doses much higher than you can get from eating the seeds, and that’s what Dr. Ernst T. Krebs began to do.

Laetrile is the clinical name given to concentrated B-17 in supplement form or used in IV injections for medical treatment patented by Krebs.
Word rapidly spread through the health community about the success of cancer treatments using laetrile in the 1950’s and 60’s.
Although it was not approved for treatment by the FDA, doctors like John A. Richardson M.D. began using it “illegally” to treat patients at his clinic in San Francisco, and it was working remarkably better than orthodox treatments.
His success with laetrile is documented in Laetrile Case Histories: The Richardson Cancer Clinic Experience by John A. Richardson M.D. and Patricia Irving, R.N.
Originally written in 1977, the book was updated in 2005 with follow ups on the patients they treated; many of whom are still alive!

The FDA considers Laetrile an unapproved drug, therefore you cannot buy Laetrile in the US, but you can buy B17 Amygdalin in supplement form HERE

I could stop now, but I won’t, because the story of the suppression of Laetrile is even more amazing.

The use of Laetrile has been repeatedly denounced by various researchers and industry organizations as one of the biggest frauds and quackery in the history of modern medicine.

Researchers like these fine fellows (read the caption):

That’s right, the same doctors that first demonized laetrile in 1953, also sang the praises of cigarettes!

In 1972 Sloan Kettering commissioned Dr. Kanematsu Sugiura, their top researcher with over 60 years experience in cancer research to conduct tests over a 5 year period between 1972 and 1977 to determine the effectiveness of Laetrile in cancer treatment.

The Conclusions of Sugiura’s work were:

1. Laetrile inhibited the growth of tumors
2. It stopped the spreading (metastasising) of cancer in mice
3. It relieved pain
4. It acted as a cancer preventative
5. It improved general health

Eureka!

However at the conclusion of the trials, on June 15, 1977 Sloan Kettering released a press statement that said,

“…laetrile was found to possess neither preventative, nor tumor-regressent, nor anti-metastatic, nor curative anticancer activity.”

After having his five years of research completely railroaded, Dr. Sugiura was asked by a reporter,
“Do you stick by your belief that laetrile stops the spread of cancer?”
He replied famously, “I stick.”

Ralph Moss, head of Public Relations at Sloan Kettering protested against the cover up, blew the whistle in a press conference on November 18 1977, and was fired the next day.
In his words, he was fired for, “failing to carry out my most basic job responsibility, which means to lie when your boss tells you to”.

Ralph Moss has authored many must-read books including The Cancer Industry and Questioning Chemotherapy. His courage to tell the truth and expose this corrupt industry has alienated him from the medical establishment but has contributed to saving tens of thousands of lives, mine included!

Two more “definitive” studies were published in 1978 and 1982 showing that laetrile does not work. These are the Big Two that the industry still cites today.

1. Dr. Charles Moertel, of the Mayo Clinic. – “A clinical trial of amygdalin (Laetrile) in the treatment of human cancer.” N Engl J Med 1982: 306 (4): 201-6.
2. Ellison N, Bvar D, Newell G. “Special report on Laetrile: The NCI Laetrile Review” N Engl J Med 1978: 299 (10): 549-552.

Dr. Stephen Krashen Ph.D. from the University of California produced tw0 papers in 2009 showing that both those studies were designed to fail.
Download His Analysis Here

Why in the world would the cancer industry attempt to discredit Laetrile?

Aren’t they trying to cure cancer?

Simple. Because it cannot be patented.
If it cannot be patented, it cannot produce huge profits.

And therefore it is in direct competition with pharmaceutical drugs.

The pharmaceutical industry has been exposed numerous times rigging studies in order to “prove” that natural therapies don’t work.

And as a result, there is not one natural non-toxic therapy used in conventional cancer treatment in the U.S. today.

The Pharmaceutical/Medical Industry wants you to believe that only patented, toxic, laboratory-created chemical compounds can cure disease.

Do you really believe that?

Laetrile has been used for over 50 years by cancer treatment centers outside the US, because it works!
One of the more well known is Oasis of Hope Hospital in Tijuana, Mexico founded by Dr. Ernesto Contreras in 1963 and now run by his son Dr. Franciso Contreras. I’ve been there and met Dr. Contreras personally. I was very impressed by him, his staff, and the hospital. They successfully treat many patients that are sent home to die by oncologists in the US.

Huge credit goes to G. Edward Griffin, author of World Without Cancer: The Story of Vitamin B17 in 1974. He’s the reason the world knows so much about B-17 / Laetrile.
Check out his websites realityzone.com and The Cancer Cure Foundation at cancure.org

There’s an excellent youtube video of Edward G. Griffin telling the story of Laetrile and the cancer treatment industry HERE. Take an hour and watch it.

Breast Cancer Foundation promoting cancer causing products

Foundation claims that organic food may be harmful.
This “non-profit” organization’s CEO Nancy Brinker gets paid an annual salary of over $684,000 a year. “…speak out against people who are using loss, fear, and sickness to turn a profit.”

(MassReport.com) Before we start, let me give you a little bit of background information on Susan G. Komen. Komen is an organization that emerged in 1982 who’s mission was to fight breast cancer. In fact, their original name was “The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation”. Since 1982, they have donated over $1 billion dollars to breast cancer awareness, support, and research programs. They’re even responsible for the famous pink ribbon logo you see everywhere during breast cancer awareness month.

But it’s not all glitter glam underneath the surface. Komen has been under fire for many years for their contradictory business moves, such as signing labeling contracts with companies known to produce cancerous and carcinogenic products like PepsiCo. Komen pulls in around $55 million each year from these companies. And though they’re promoting breast cancer awareness, they’re being paid to have their logo on cancerous products. Sounds sensible.

Not to mention that this “non-profit” organization’s CEO Nancy Brinker gets paid an annual salary of over $684,000 a year. Living comfortably there, Nancy?

So the contradictory nature of this organization is very clear. And what’s even clearer is this “non-profit” organization is very much profitable.

Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation claims organic food not safe – promoting cancer causing products

Komen has claimed that eating organic food could actually be worse for you than food riddled with pesticides. Specifically, they say this:

“…consumption of organic food is a controversial issue and high quality human research is lacking in this area. Specifically, claims of higher nutritional value and lower toxic contaminants in organic foods currently have little scientific evidence supporting pronounced benefits. Some studies have shown that organic food has a lower amount of pesticides, but research has not confirmed that lower amounts of pesticides are causally related to preventing certain diseases or conditions.”

While this isn’t entirely false, it’s very misleading. When the actual research that has been done is acknowledged with an “it exists”, then readers and supporters will widely disregard it. There have been several large studies confirming that not only do these vegetables have lower levels of pesticides, but contain more antioxidants and nutrients of a higher quality, including a 2014 study done in the UK.

Scientists Reviewed 343 Studies to see if Organic Food is Better for you. Here’s what they Found Out

Researchers found that organically grown crops contain anywhere from 18-69% more antioxidants and 10-100 times less pesticide residue. When plants aren’t sprayed with synthetic pesticides, they typically produce higher more phenols and polyphenols to protect themselves. These compounds have been found to play a powerful role in boosting the immune system.

Shouldn’t an organization aimed to fight cancer be more aware of these types of things? Perhaps they are aware and they’re just ignoring it? After all, how would they make $55 million from companies producing synthetic products if everybody started eating organic food?

This is what happens when causes become commercialized. The people in the commercial industry are already corrupted. Their goal in the end is profit, and that kind of ego is unacceptable when fighting a just cause, as the cause becomes that much more corruptible. I could never bash somebody for spreading cancer awareness. But I’ll certainly speak out against people who are using loss, fear, and sickness to turn a profit.

More about Susan G Komen Foundations Practices

Several water bottle retailers have partnered with the Komen Foundation.  Single-use plastic water bottles commonly contain BPA, which has been linked to breast cancer tumor growth.  For the 2008 model year, Ford Motor Company built a branded limited edition of 2500 Ford Mustang motorcars with a “Warriors in Pink” package  as part of their long-running association with Komen; an additional 1000 were offered for 2009’s model year.  A longitudinal study found that women employed in the automotive plastics industry are almost five times as likely to develop breast cancer prior to menopause, compared women in a control group.

In April 2010, Komen paired with fast food restaurant chain KFC to offer “Buckets for the Cure,” a promotion in which fried and grilled chicken was sold in pink branded buckets. The collaboration garnered criticism from media outlets, including The Colbert Report  and Bitch magazine,  and raised criticisms about the promotion of unhealthy eating habits and obesity, since obesity contributes to breast cancer.  KFC contributed over $4.2 million to Komen, the largest single contribution in the organization’s history.  The partnership with KFC, which has since ended, allowed Komen “to reach many millions of women that they had been unable to reach before,” said Brinker.

In April 2011, Komen introduced its own perfume brand, “Promise Me”, promoted by Komen CEO Nancy Brinker on the Home Shopping Network, only to encounter opposition due to coumarin, oxybenzone, toluene and galaxolide as potentially harmful ingredients. Komen stated its intention to have the product reformulated but has refused to withdraw existing stocks of the “Promise Me” product from distribution.

In October 2014, Houston-based oil field services company Baker Hughes was reported to have produced 1,000 pink drill bits to raise breast cancer awareness. The land drill bits are used to break up geologic formations in oil patches for hydraulic fracturing.  These ties have been criticized, because of the more than 700 chemicals used in fracking more than one third are endocrine disruptors and at least one quarter increase the risk of cancer.
